
1920s fashion was the result of societal change. In the post-war era of prohibition, gangsters and bootleggers, flappers and the early years of Chanel, opulence and excess were at an all-time high. Bold, geometric and sparkly were much unlike the fashion choices of years prior and this quick adoption of soon ushered in the traditional Art Deco style.
The 1920s also saw women escaping the confines of stay-at-home wife life and forging careers, generating their own incomes and being able to shop and head to clubs and restaurants freely. With this change in the status quo, many fashion designers such as Coco Chanel, Jean Patou and Jeanne Lanvin began creating looks that took elements from men’s fashion, with the added silhouettes of frocks and luxury garments, creating the classic 1920s fashion style we all know and love today.
